Southern California Wildfires – How You Can Help

How can you and your congregations help?

Lutheran Social Services of Southern California is providing food, shelter, water and more to those impacted by this disaster – you can donate at their linked Facebook page.

Donate to Lutheran Disaster Response, which addresses disasters from immediate relief through long-term recovery.

United Way of Ventura County – 100% of donations will go towards those affected by the wildfires.

 

Immediate Local Needs

Hope Gardens Family Center, a transitional housing campus for single women and children experiencing homelessness in Sylmar was forced to evacuate , and the residents relocated to the Union Rescue Mission. You can also direct monetary donations at this link.

The Teen Challenge Women’s Facility in Ventura has burned down – there are no injuries but residents escaped with only the clothes on their backs. The Teen Challenge residential program is one of the largest and most effective substance abuse recovery and prevention programs of its kind, and women from this facility visit Luther Church of Our Redeemer in Oxnard to share their stories.

Sixty-one ladies are being relocated to Bakersfield, and they are in desperate need of clothes and personal hygiene items. Monetary donations be directed here, and hand-me-downs or toiletries that you can spare for these women can be delivered to:
