Church Office Assistant – Bethlehem Lutheran Church & School

Job Description – Church Office Assistant

Purpose: To provide support for the daily operations of the church by serving as a receptionist during office hours and putting together church publications. The Church Office Assistant also coordinates church volunteers and has other clerical duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
Receptionist for church office during office hours: answers the phone, welcomes visitors, monitoring office supply inventory and ordering as needed, brings weekly deposits to the bank, etc.

Provide a welcome, loving, and Christ-centered environment in the church office

Publishes weekly worship bulletins, Sunday announcements, monthly church newsletter, and funeral and wedding bulletins as needed, with assistance of Pastor

Prints readings and prayers weekly for worship, sets up altar and lectern with readings for Sunday morning, and refreshes pews regularly by replacing pens and offering envelopes

Schedules and organizes Sunday morning volunteers

Sets up for Bible Study on Wednesday mornings and cleans up afterward

Assists pastor with projects of mailings as requested, does Post Office mailings, including monthly newsletters to selected members

Pulls letter weekly for Balboa sign change and communicates with volunteers to change the sign

Helps maintain and post on Bethlehem Facebook page and website as well as creating flyers and graphics as needed, using Canva and/or Publisher

Maintains large reference calendar on kiosk

Sends emails to the congregation to inform them of current prayer requests and church events and needs with assistance of Pastor and Business Administrator

Skills:

Well organized and reliable

Ability to work effectively with other staff and volunteers

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Gmail, and Facebook

Willing and able to learn MailChimp online email program, Google Slides, Breeze Membership tracking software, and other programs as needed

Qualifications:

Background check required

Ability to relate positively to church members, visitors, and other staff

At least 18 years of age

Experience in church environment strongly preferred.
