LIVING THE LEGACY OF THE REV. DR. NELSON W. TROUT
BISHOP EMERITUS
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Bishop Nelson W. Trout
On Sunday, September 20, congregations across the Southwest California Synod are invited to join in honoring the life, ministry, and enduring legacy of Bishop Nelson W. Trout, the first African American bishop in the American Lutheran Church.
This celebration is more than an opportunity to remember a remarkable leader in the life of the church. It is an invitation to reflect on Bishop Trout’s witness, to learn from his ministry, and to continue the work of building a church rooted in faith, justice, courage, and our shared life in Christ.
Congregations are encouraged to mark the day in their own worship and community life using the Bible study, worship materials, temple talk, and other resources provided below. Bishop Brenda Bos also invites members of our synod to attend the Nelson W. Trout Celebration at Ascension Lutheran Church in Los Angeles on September 20th at 3:00 p.m.
A Message From Bishop Bos
Watch Bishop Bos’ invitation below, explore the resources, and join congregations throughout our synod in remembering Bishop Trout and carrying his living legacy forward.
