Reformation 500 at Hope, Atascadero

During 2017 and in anticipation of Reformation Day,  Hope, Atascadero has celebrated  three ways.

During their Lenten midweek worship services, they featured Lutherans who were either not originally from the U.S. or who are currently serving abroad, enabling conversations about the Lutheran experience in other contexts, and how we can learn from them.  Their guests were from or were serving in: Guyana, El Salvador, Germany, Malaysia, and Australia.  Hope plans to invite more guests from abroad in the coming year.

They also made “Church-on-the-go” boxes for summer travelers, featuring the Small Catechism (either the app or the hard copy), and fun interactive prayers for all ages.  The box itself unfolded to become a church…on the go.

Hope held a summer-long worship series on the Small Catechism, spending time in all the “sections.”  Each section had a special door to go with it, with participants posting prayer petitions on the doors each week – not with nails, but with post-its.
