Longest Night Worship
A Longest Night Service (sometimes called the Blue Christmas) in the Western Christian tradition is held on a day in Advent on or about December 21 – the Winter Solstice and the longest night of the year. Longest Night is usually a time of worship and contemplation for those who have lost love ones and are experiencing grief.

In this service, we recognize the dark night of the soul of 2020. Using four candles, you’ll be invited to light them one by one as the service progresses, with prayer, words, and music from Office of the Bishop staff, our conference deans, and synod musicians.
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream… Psalm 126
Join us for four Sundays of virtual worship under the theme “Those Who Dream,” with prayers, Scripture, preaching, and song, brought to you by Lutheran congregations throughout Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Compton.
Youth will share each week about their dreams for themselves, their dreams for our community, and what we think God’s dream looks like. We’re also proud to use the artwork and resources of the worship arts collective A Sanctified Art for this series.
New City Parish member congregations are welcome to use these worship services as your Sunday services, if that is helpful to you. Congregations beyond New City Parish are also invited to use these resources, but are asked to consider making a donation to the ministry of New City Parish to support the work.
